Inspired – Leigh Ofer

October 2, 2009

I was browsing the web and was found a very inspiring web site:

Hedi Slimane is a fashion photographer and I loved how she captured childhood innocence and sexual tension and awareness in the same picture. This propelled me to gather a few of my friends on a sunny afternoon, and use them as my subjects to try and capture the same feeling.

Here is what I came up with:

I would love and appreciate any feedback.

    Hi Leigh,

I think your photos look stunning. In terms of visuals, Hedi seems to use a lot of contrast and sharpness in her pictures, and I think you best captured that in your last two photos (I’m not familiar with her work, though, so I could be wrong). Perhaps you could try taking close-up shots of your subjects so that their entire form is in very sharp detail, and find a plain, non-busy background to further emphasize the subjects. Sometimes just blurring the background isn’t enough to reduce its detail and ‘noise’ so that the eye doesn’t keep going back there.

The emotions you were shooting for are definitely there, though. Fantastic work 🙂

I don’t know Heidi’s work, but I do really enjoy that first picture you posted. I just wish that guy hadn’t been in the background. Did you photoshop these?
What camera do you use? What lenses?
I also really liked the photo of your friend by that copper pillar.

I really love the emotions you capture in the first and last photos. I think that those capture the feeling of what you say Heidi goes for, though I don’t know her work. Great photos!
